ROBOT SPACE EXPLORERS
PUBLICITY Publicity is essential to the success of a large
robot event, and should be targeted at the intended participants. Press
releases should be sent to local newspapers, radio and TV stations about
ten days before the event. Posters can be displayed in local libraries,
schools, colleges, post offices, supermarkets and shops. Postcard-sized
adverts are convenient for distribution in the local community (e.g. packs
can be placed on counters in libraries and post offices, and supplied to
science and D&T departments in schools for handing out to interested
pupils). Your local learning network, Science and Engineering Ambassadors,
SETPOINT
and BBC
Learning Link Advisor might also be able to help publicise your event. The amount of effort that
should be put into publicity is proportional to the number of people you
wish to attract to the event. Some form of booking system is strongly recommended,
in order to limit numbers (if necessary) and inform and regulate your publicity
effort during the fortnight preceding the event. There is little point
in fostering a demand that you cannot possibly fulfil, unless you intend
running further events which could accommodate the overflow. |
