HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Ensure
that there is adequate insurance cover for the event.
- Ensure that
there are enough stewards and first aiders to cope with the number of expected
participants.
- Emergency
exits must be kept clear of obstructions.
- Trailing
cables should be secured to the floor with duct tape or hazard tape.
- Care must
be taken not to overload electrical sockets.
- If participants
will have access to hand tools, machine tools or other hazardous equipment
at the venue (e.g. in a D&T workshop), then it will be necessary
to impose an appropriate minimum age restriction, and provide adequate
adult supervision throughout the event.
- Children
below the age of 10 must not be left unaccompanied at the event.
- If older children
are to be left unaccompanied at the event, you must know how to contact
their parents/guardians quickly in case of an emergency.
- The use
of robots with exposed gearboxes, electrical wiring or other hazardous
features must be adequately supervised.
- Participants
must not be exposed to DC voltages in excess of 12V.
- Stewards, first
aiders and members of the organising committee should perform a thorough check of the venue
for any safety hazards (e.g. obstructed emergency exits, trailing cables,
missing first aid kits, missing/discharged fire extinguishers, etc.)
shortly before the start of the event. They should continue to keep a lookout
for, and remedy/report, safety hazards throughout the event.
